A new gangster rap/hip-hop musical that’s inspired by lyrics from deceased rapper Tupac Shakur is to open in broadway this year. Titled Holla If Ya Hear Me (also the title of a Tupac song) it’s been announced that the musical will be featured at the Palace Theatre in New York in June.
The plot will centre around two friends who live in the inner city in the Midwest. It’s been said that the plot is non-biographical and not centered around Tupac’s life.
The musical is to be directed by Kenny Leon, who has previously worked on Broadway before. The show had been announced previously, but was put on hold last year, reportedly because of a lack of available theatres.
At the 2012 Coachella music festival in the US, a hologram of Shakur performed songs with Snoop Dogg.
