In a bonkers yet wonderful move, Sonisphere Festival have added ‘Rockney’ duo Chas & Dave to their 2014 lineup at Knebworth. The legendary Londoners are best known for a selection of 70s chart pub sing-song hits such as ‘Rabbit’ and ‘Ain’t No Pleasing You’, but in this case, have been booked amongst some of the biggest, heaviest metal bands in existence. But believe it or not, the duo actually have experience in this realm, previously performing at Knebworth as a support act for Led Zeppelin’s iconic gigs in 1979.
Releasing a short statement after the announcement, the duo referenced these shows, saying: “We wen’t down well at Knebworth in ’79. Not surprised we got a return booking!”
Announced further up the bill, Limp Bizkit are set to bring their Nu-Metal bounce to Hertfordshire’s countryside as a warm up for The Prodigy’s Friday headline set, and Thrash titans Anthrax will return for the first time since their 2012 slot as part of the ‘Big Four’.
“It’s one of those phone calls you only dream about” said Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.
“I’m so excited for Anthrax to be part of the biggest and best Sonisphere ever. Can’t wait to destroy Knebworth again.”
The Devin Townsend Project, The Sisters Of Mercy, Silverstein, The Virginmarys and Voodoo Six were also added to the bill, joining Metallica, Iron Maiden, Alice In Chains, Slayer and Mastodon, amongst others.
Sonisphere 2014 takes place at Knebworth Park between the 4th and 6th July. Early Bird weekend tickets are available now.
