Karen O has unveiled a video for ‘Rapt’ – the first track from her forthcoming debut solo album Crush Songs.
‘Rapt’ was played exclusively on Lauren Laverne’s New Music Monday on BBC 6Music earlier today and – featuring just vocals and guitar – showcases the lo-fi, stripped back sound that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman has hinted at. Following on from the song’s premiere, Karen has already released an accompanying music video directed by the singer’s husband Barney Clay which shows Karen slowly drifting along underwater. The video which looks of a suitably low-budget to match the song, can be seen above.
Crush Songs is reportedly a collection of recordings from between 2006 and 2007, so perhaps it is seeing release now following on from the success of Karen’s solo track ‘The Moon Song’ that was nominated for an Academy Award thanks to its inclusion in the Spike Jonze film ‘Her’.
The album is due for release on September 9th on Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records label but will first be available via a pre-release limited special vinyl edition which will feature some of Karen’s own illustration and handwritten lyrics.
