Nielsen SoundScan, the service which tracks music sales in the US and Canada, have released new figures which show massive growth for music streaming but a decline for download sales this year.
Between January and September 2015 there were 232 billion streams, an increase from the 118.1 billion from the same period of 2014.
In terms of download sales, Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is currently topping the sales with 951,000 sales and just below that is Taylor Swift’s 1989 with 809,000 sales.
In the digital singles chart, Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk reached 5m sales.
The report also states that independent records label have accounted for 13.2% of download sales. Billboard disputes this, claiming the sales from independent labels is closer to 35%.
