On Monday 9th November, singer Chester Bennington and the other members of Stone Temple Pilots released statements on their website announcing an “amicable” split so that Bennington can focus on his other band Linkin Park.
Bennington joined the Stone Temple Pilots in 2013 shortly after the departure of their singer Scott Weiland. Since then the group have released an EP, High Rise, and toured internationally. In the band’s statement they said “we have thoroughly enjoyed our time together with Chester not only professionally, but even more so on a personal level. Sadly, it was evident that scheduling and time was [sic] working against us.”
Bennington cites dividing his time over Linkin Park, Stone Temple Pilots and his family life as the reason for his departure, saying “one of them always seems to fall short… I’m going to focus solely on Linkin Park so I can contribute 100%”.
The band are planning on continuing with another vocalist, also stating they have an “abundance” of new material written, some of which is recorded. “Within this, there is a new beginning…. we have had the fortune of playing with some very talented singers over the last few months and will continue to do so until each of us feels and knows when the right person arrives.”
