Fans of Oasis have made themselves heard at this year’s edition of the John Lewis Christmas advert. The latest John Lewis campaign sees 19-year-old Norwegian singer Aurora Aksnes, cover Oasis’ B-side ‘Half The World Away’.

The 19-year old singer soundtracks the 2015 advert, which focuses on the story of an elderly man living on the moon. It hopes to raise money for charity Age UK.

Recent years has seen other contemporary artists cover older material in a stripped back fashion, with the likes of Slow Moving Millie covering The Smiths’ ‘Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want’, while Lily Allen’s cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ was a hit back in 2013.

The advert split opinions among fans of the band, with one tweeting: “I see John Lewis have butchered an Oasis tune for Christmas”. While another wrote that the cover had “ruined my favourite Oasis song and therefore ruined Christmas”.
