After learning earlier today that multi-instrumentalist and one of the key songwriters, Rostam Batmanglij, will be departing the band, Vampire Weekend’s frontman, Ezra Koenig, released the following statement on Instagram.
“A couple of years ago, Rostam and I sat down at his house & talked about whether our collaboration was dependant on being members of the same band. We both firmly agreed that nope, it was not. In fact, we agreed that our collaboration was more important.”
Throughout the statement he goes on to confirm that drummer Chris Tomson and Chris Baio will continue to create music together and work on LP4 has begun.
“For now in the Vampire Weekend universe, it’s all about recording the next album. There will be a lot of familiar faces in the studio, but also some fresh ones. Working title is ‘Mitsubishi Macchiato’…for obvious reasons”
What the album will contain is a mystery to everyone with Ezra’s comments about 2016 being the year to keep an eye out for Vampire Weekend.
